SUMMARY:Revisiting Decolonization Processes in Southeast Asia (1)
LOCATION:Room 1.205
DESCRIPTION:Southeast Asia was a pioneer in the global process of decoloniz
ation, the proclamation of independence of Indonesia in August 1945 being t
he first of a sweeping process that nevertheless took long before the indep
endence of Timor-Leste set a final (?) mark to it. In the half century that
it lasted, various cases tested the relationships between Decolonization,
Re- colonization and Cold War. Time is now ripe to project new light both o
n the process as a whole and in significant case studies framed in a compar
ative context. The proposed panel will be open to scholars of every SEAsia
country/sub-region who can contribute to reframe our understanding of the c
omplexities of what is perhaps the most significant series of events after
 World War II.
